Nova Zelândia

Embora a primeira menção da Fé Bahá'í na Nova Zelândia tenha acontecido em 1853 [1], foi por volta de 1904 que um indivíduo entrou em contato com os bahá'ís e publicaram artigos na Nova Zelândia em 1908. [2] A primeira bahá'í era Dorothea Spinney que tinha acabado de chegar de Londres em 1912. [3] Pouco tempo depois houve duas conversões cerca de 1913 - Robert Felkin que havia conhecido 'Abdu'l-Bahá em Londres em 1911 e se mudou para a Nova Zelândia em 1912 e se declarou um bahá'í em 1914 [4] e Margaret Stevenson, que ouviu pela primeira vez da religião em 1911 e por se declarou uma bahá'í em 1913. [5] Depois de `Abdu'l-Bahá publicar a obra Epístolas do Plano Divino que menciona a Nova Zelândia [6], a comunidade cresceu rapidamente de modo que a primeira Assembleia Espiritual Local do país foi formada em 1923 [7] ou 1924 [8] e, em seguida, formou-se outra em 1926. Os bahá'ís da Nova Zelândia elegeram sua primeira Assembleia Espiritual Nacional independente em 1957. [9] Em 1963, havia quatro Assembleias, e em 18 localidades havia um grupo de bahá'ís. [10] O censo de 2006, relatou haver cerca de 2.800 bahá'ís [11] com cerca de 45 assembleias locais e cerca de 20 comunidades menores [12] embora a Associação de Arquivos de Dados Religião estimou que havia cerca de 7.000 bahá'ís em 2005.
