A Fé Bahá'í no Uruguai foi primeira mencionado na carta de 'Abdu'l-Bahá em 1916 .[1]. A primeira bahá'í a entrar no país foi em 1919, a ilustre viajante Martha Root [2]. O primeiro pioneiro a residir no país foi Wilfrid Barton no início de 1940 e os primeiros bahá'ís da Assembleia Espiritual Local de Montevidéu foram eleitos em 1942 [3]. Em 1961 os uruguaios tinha eleito a primeira Assembleia Espiritual Nacional e em 1963 havia três Assembleias Locais mais outras comunidades [4]. Em 2001, houve um número estimado de 4.000 Bahá'ís no Uruguai [5].
